Welcome to Anderson, Indiana.Anderson is a city located in Madison County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 59,734.
It is the site of the headquarters of the Church of God (Anderson), and of Anderson University, which is affiliated with that denomination. Anderson is an exciting and changing place to live. Only 20 minutes from the North side of Indianapolis, we provide a comfortable and affordable alternative to live. With a newly renovated downtown area with such attractions as the restored Paramount Theatre and the new Town Plaza, we have wonderful venues for musical entertainment ranging from outdoor concerts to the Anderson Symphony Orchestra.
Our park system is outstanding as well, with Shadyside Park and Mounds State park as two of the finest. Hoosier Park also offers exciting live thoroughbred and harness racing throughout most of the year.

Some of the highlights of the city include the historic Paramount Theatre and the Gruenwald Home.The city of Anderson is named for Chief William Anderson, whose mother was a Delaware (Lenape) Indian and whose father was of Swedish descent. Chief Anderson's Indian name was Kikthawenund meaning "making a noise" or "causing to crack" and is spelled in a variety of ways.
It is a manufacturing center in a fertile farm area; automotive parts, fabricated metal products, furniture, light consumer goods, paper, and electronic equipment are produced. The city's industrial growth began with the discovery of natural gas in 1887. The automotive industry was established in 1901. Anderson College is there. The city has a fine-arts center and a symphony orchestra. Nearby Mounds State Park has numerous prehistoric mounds.
